When a signer accesses an iinked Sign Package, they are prompted to share their geolocation. Sharing the device’s location is optional, as the signer must accept the request due to security considerations. If the user declines, they can still proceed to the Package.
In some cases however, a geolocation must be provided for certain types of transactions and if the signer declines to share their location or has location services disabled on their device, an error message will be displayed, preventing them from proceeding to the Package. The Package owner has control over this feature and can decide whether to enforce it for their signers or not.
When creating and customizing a Package, click on the Location tab in the Package Options menu.
Under the Location tab, there is a Geolocation toggle switch that manages the location settings. When the toggle is turned ON, it prompts signers to share their geolocation, which is then included in the MasterFile. The signer has the option to either share their location or decline. When the toggle is turned OFF, the signer is not prompted to share their geolocation.
When the Geolocation toggle is ON, a Required toggle switch becomes active, allowing the Package owner to enforce the geolocation collection where required. By default, this toggle is OFF, but when turned ON, the signer must share their geolocation to proceed. Enabling this toggle presents the Package originator the option to activate additional options, which can enforce the geolocation requirement at specific stages of the signing process, based on their use cases.
- Sign Documents - providing geolocation to open and sign documents.
- Signature Pad - providing geolocation to use the signature pad.
- Join Meetings - providing geolocation to join Video Signing Room meetings.
- Start IDV - providing geolocation to start identity verifications.
You can set the option you want for all your future Packages by updating the
Signing Defaults values: Set Your Signing Defaults
After the geolocation enforcement settings have been applied, if the signer’s browser or PC or mobile device has location services turned off, they will be prompted to enable and share their location.
To enable location services, the signer needs to:
- Open the website settings - in most of the browsers, the website settings can be opened from the URL/address bar itself.
- Select allow location
- Reload page
The message shown in red in the screenshot, "You must share your location to continue", can be customized in the Signing Defaults page under the System Messages section. This can be done by an admin user and will apply to all Packages created by members within the organization. The message can also be customized in other available languages (fr, es, de).
If the signer chooses not to share their location, the application does not allow the signer to continue with the signing process. The Package owner is notified via email that the signer has declined to share their location. The signer can always retry signing the document by re-opening the Sign link in the Ready To Sign email.
